About the index

A map between molecular classifications and real-world language.

Subtype is an educational reference for researchers and students. It connects molecular tumor subtypes to their cancer cohort, classifier labels, sample counts, omics platforms, and source publications.

Data status

The primary index contains 106 TCGA molecular subtype entries across 26 cohorts, from the 2025 TCGA subtype-classifier compilation and its supplementary Table S1. This is the fullest single curated compilation currently used by this MVP, but it is not every subtype ever published from TCGA.

The older 58-label table is retained as a deprecated historical source and is not mixed into the primary index. OncoTree remains a separate clinical tumor-type cross-reference, while ICD-O remains a separate registry terminology layer at Registry terminology.
